WHAT IS THE PERSONALIZED PBL (PPBL) HIGH SCHOOL PATHWAY?
Students in the SMMUSD High School PBL pathway have the opportunity to engage in rigorous learning experiences and to effect change in their communities. Students will engage in fusing project-based learning with real cooperative community learning experiences. Because this high school experience is driven by college and career readiness, they will, have personalized college-going and career services. All students will be enrolled in a UC A-G course of study.

THE BASICS
WHEN
Starting in the Fall of 2019, there will be a cohort of 100 ninth graders in the Personalized PBL Pathway. The PPBL Pathway will grow by 100 students per year until there are 400 students total 9th-12th grade. The target for full buildout is the 2022-23 school year.
WHERE
Personalized PBL Pathway is a Santa Monica High School program but will be primarily housed at the soon-to be-renamed “Innovation Center” facility at Lincoln and Ocean Park Blvds. The Innovation Center campus will be shared by Olympic Continuation School, Off Campus Learning Center, Independent Study, Personalized Project Based Learning Pathway. Starting the 2021-2022 school year, a Capstone program will also be housed at the Innovation Center.
THE MODEL
3 DAYS A WEEK:
Students are engage in learning academic content, fully aligned to the California state standards, through integrated, rigorous, real world projects.
2 DAYS A WEEK:
Students will “leave to learn”. Students have options. Some students will engage in internships with industry professionals. Through this, students will build a professional network that strengthens their 21st century skills, academic knowledge and skills, and develops character. Some students may take limited VAPA or World Language courses. Some students may engage in sports teams on Samohi’s main campus. Some students may also take dual enrollment college courses
