WHAT IS PBL?

PBL is an authentic teaching and learning experience centered around high interest, real world-relevant projects. They are interdisciplinary (integrate multiple subject matters) and often take place over an extended period of time. To demonstrate the skills and knowledge gained from the project experience, students plan and execute a public product or presentation. Often, community partners and experts are engaged to provide real world connection and mentorship.

According a national study by the Innovation Unit:

  • Students in public personalized PBL high schools outperformed peers from non-personalized PBL schools on both literacy and math state assessments by at least 10%

  • 78% of students take college courses while in high school

  • 95-100% of students are accepted into 2 or 4-year colleges
